The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet style of previous albums. It was a more ferocious, consistent effort with an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's improved proficiency on the drums, as well as a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams.
