Simple to use
Parents should have a car seat and stroller combination that is easy to use. These travel systems allow you to switch between running errands or walking the dog, or going for a jog. You can also adapt to the ever-changing needs of your child so you can have fun with your family adventures. These travel systems move smoothly and effortlessly, regardless of whether they have a front wheel or two. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Combo and the BOB Alterrain Pro combo are particularly easy to maneuver however, the Baby Jogger City Mini GT 2 Combo and the BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Combo can be moved easily with a single hand.
Certain models are difficult to attach or remove from the base. The Doona Combo, for example, requires a two-step attachment process and straps that go over the infant's bottom part. It's tempting to skip these steps, but it could result in dangerous results.
In the same way certain models are difficult to fold and put away, which makes them less convenient than others. The Graco FastAction 3-in-1 Car Seat Stroller, for example, is difficult to fold due to its massive dimensions and bulky frame. Some users also find the canopy of this model to be unsatisfactory. The Britax Parkway Combo Click and Go is easy to fold down with a push of a button and a pull of the lever. This model is a great choice for parents who want to use their car seat in other people's cars, as it can be easily detached from the base.
Easy to Fold
Whether you're storing the car seat on its own, in the trunk of your vehicle or even in a closet, it should be simple to fold and unfold. The best combinations we've tested have an easy one-handed fold that is compact and strong enough to be used for long walks. 2 in 1 pram and pushchair to maneuver and glide effortlessly over uneven surfaces. We've seen a few combinations that can only be connected or detached using straps, which may feel like an extra step and make it difficult for parents to secure the car seat properly.
The BOB Revolution Flex Combo is a fantastic choice for its sturdy construction and practical features, including a large storage bin that can be accessed from the back or front. Its exclusive SafeCenter LATCH makes it simple to achieve a secure car seat installation by simply connecting the lower anchors, pulling the straps tight and then pressing the carrier into the base.
It's also fairly light, making it a great option for frequent travelers or families with multiple vehicles. The Baby Jogger City Mini GT 2 Combo and the Thule Urban Glide 2 have also scored very well in our tests of ease-of-use. Both come with a single wheel that is simple to push with one hand. Both have a single front wheel which is easy to push (one-handed!). They also come with a versatile swing wheel, which is ideal for shopping and running errands. The only drawback is that they're heavy and may be difficult to lift when carrying a baby in the car seat.
Easy to Assemble
Some stroller and car seat combos can be difficult to put together. We discovered that the UPPAbaby Cruz v2 Combo was one of the most simple to put together, and it even comes with a quick-start guide that makes putting this system together easy. Other models, including the UPPAbaby Minu and UPPAbaby Vista v2, Thule urban Glide 2 and Baby Trend Snap-N-Go EX Universal were also relatively easy to assemble. However the BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Combo is difficult to assemble because it requires two steps - attaching the lower anchors and using straps that are placed over the bottom of the carrier. It's heavy, which means it requires two people to secure the carrier in the base, and then to remove it.
In our tests, we took just 5 minutes to put together the UPPAbaby Cruz. It's a fairly simple process when you consider the time saved from not having to rip out each piece. The toddler seat can be attached and removed with ease on most of these models.
